Readathon Wrapup
April 11th, 2010 § 15 Comments
wow, the readathon is over! if you are interested, i kept track of hourly status updates in this post. if it’s a bumbling mess at the end, please forgive me.
SUMMARY
Finished 6 books
Started 2 more, to finish later
Read approx. 1300 pgs
Read for approx. 23.25 hours
POST READATHON SURVEY
1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
by far the most daunting were hours 22 and 23, which were from 11pm-1am (past my bedtime!)
2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
If I Stay and Stardust both turned out to be excellent reads, though Stardust was admittedly a slower read than i’d expected it to be. and although i didn’t finish it, Hunger Games definitely seems to be a great readathon style book.
3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
i noticed that some mini-challenges were linked directly and others were only linked to the homepage of the host blog. for some of those linked to the host blog, i had a hard time finding the mini-challenge post.
i would just suggest making it consistent, whatever method works best.
4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
the chearleaders were a-may-zing! and i loved being able to hop in and see what was going on using the #readathon hashtag on twitter. it’s so low commitment to just check out the feed and disappear back into the book that you happen to be reading.
5. How many books did you read?
finished 6
unfinished 2
6. What were the names of the books you read?
The Bird Room by Chris Killen
Coraline by Neil Gaiman and P. Craig Russell
The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin by Josh Berk
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Hypnotizing Maria by Richard Bach
Stardust by Neil Gaiman
Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon (unfinished)
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (unfinished)
7. Which book did you enjoy most?
definitely If I Stay
8. Which did you enjoy least?
Hypnotizing Maria didn’t live up to my expectations at all
9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
no, the chearleaders were amazing. although, i did notice that it got rather quiet late at night. but, that’s to be expected.
10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
i will absolutely participate in the next readathon! i intend to read again and i’d love to host a mini-challenge and donate gifts next time around.
well done 6 books impressive , i hope take part in next readathon ,was at work ysterday so couldn’t do this time
thanks! it was a lot of fun. if you can, you should definitely take part next time.
I’m starting to think that you may be superhuman! 6 books????? 23 and a half hours???????
You deserve a nice long lay in tomorrow now.
Well done!
i am unbelievably exhausted, but i figure if i can run a marathonn, i can read all day.
Wonderful job on the Read-a-Thon! Way to go! I’ll be looking forward to reading with you on October. Keep on rocking and reading, read-a-thoner! It’s been lots of fun!
yes, i’ll definitely be back in october. it was great to meet so many other readers and bloggers nutty enough to do this!
I didn’t even look at Twitter, and I still felt like I spent all my time on the computer! Maybe I should have been looking at Twitter instead of blogging all the time! LOL. I hope you had fun-congratulations on making it to the end!
lol. yeah, it’s so easy to get distracted by one thing or another.
i had a great time and thank you!
Loved IF I STAY and HUNGER GAMES! Great job!
If I Stay was my favorite of the day yesterday. didn’t quite make it through Hunger Games, because i started it too late, but i’ll hopefully finish it up today. it looks promising.
I read Coraline for another readathon and it was perfect for the occasion. I didn’t get to Twitter at all. Sounds like you did great!
i agree that Coraline was a good choice. i would definitely recommend it for others!
i only used twitter sparingly, but it was nice to use instead of trying to read everyones blog posts that day. i spent today getting caught up on my reader.
Looks like you did an amazing job. I really enjoyed The Hunger Games and Stardust.
yes, both were very good! i didn’t finish Hunger Games during the readathon, but took some time out yesterday to finish it up.
